Manual Capstan Table--can be easily unfolded and stored in a matter of seconds. Before the table is unfolded, a large screw beneath the table is loosened to unlock the table.
The DB Fletcher’s Captan Table was inspired by Robert Jupe’s 1835 patented design. However, Jupe’s table was not capable of stowing its own table leaves. It was also very slow to operate. Jupe’s design was radially operated, but the table itself wasn’t perfectly round. DB Fletcher tweaked and manipulated Jupe’s design and transformed it into a beautiful, functional, and extremely easy to operate table. Fletcher’s design is comprised of three sets of table leafs, a drum, a table drum, and the drum skirt. The table drum and skirt hide the complex steel and aluminum mechanisms essential for the table’s operation. When unfolded, the Capstan Table expands by 73%. It is typically made in diameters between 69 to 91 inches and 80 to 105 inches.

Longwood's Conservatory is one of the world's great greenhouse structures. It shelters 20 indoor gardens and 5,500 types of plants. The Conservatory was built in 1919 and has been periodically expanded and renovated. At present, there are 195,668 square feet—or 4.5 acres—of covered display, production, and research greenhouses.
Cascade Garden--is a visually exciting display which takes advantage of the vertical feeling of the greenhouse. Water cascades splashing into clear pools and lush, richly-textured plants clinging to the walls and carpeting the ground are featured. Of special interest are the bromeliads, many of which are epiphytic plants (plants that grow on and use other plants for support but are not parasitic upon them) that naturally grow high in the tops of trees. Noteworthy plants: earth-stars (Cryptanthus), giant alcantarea (Alcantarea imperialis), philodendrons (Philodendron pinnatifidum)
Visitors enter the Conservatory Complex through the Orangery, the stateliest of all the indoor display areas. This greenhouse was originally used for growing edible citrus fruits. Today, the majestic glasshouse features a kaleidoscope of flowers, bulbs and foliage that exude color and fragrance and change frequently through each of Longwood's seasons. Noteworthy Plants: Creeping fig (Ficus pumila) grows up the columns just as it did in the days of Longwood's founder Pierre du Pont. Birds-of-paradise (Strelitzia reginae) and an old Rhaphiolepis (Rhaphiolepis x delacourii) are permanent residents in the ever-changing floral display conservatory.
The Exhibition Hall has the original, sunken, marble floor which is usually flooded with a few inches of water for reflection. Australian tree ferns thrive in the humid environment. Occasionally the floor is drained and used for special displays and events. Noteworthy Plants: Bougainvillea is trained on the pillars and is original to the conservatory plantings from the 1920s. Seasonal displays may include flowering bulbs, oleander (Nerium oleander), crape-myrtle (Lagerstroemia indica), geraniums (Geranium maderense), Marguerite (Argyranthemum frutescens) and petunias. Flower shows from the Rose, Lily, Rhododendron, Orchid and Bonsai Societies also take center stage in this room throughout the year.
….... It was know as the Azalea House and featured an outstanding collection of non-hardy azaleas and rhododendrons that blossomed in late winter.
The new design derives inspiration from Moorish, French, and Modernist influences but it is distinctly unique to Longwood. Flowering trees and fragrant shrubs abound, creating a park-like setting. Permanent plantings of Mediterranean and sub-tropical flora complement large-scale displays of seasonal blooming plants. Large hedges create intimate areas for quiet contemplation. Plants chosen for color, texture and fragrance invite exploration and a stream and a waterfall add sound and motion.
Noteworthy plants: Ever-changing seasonal displays provide a wealth of color and fragrance. Towering bamboo with black and silver culms reach to the sky. Our rare wood's cycad (Encephalartos woodii) is one of the best in the world. Colorful trees like bottlebrush (Callistemon viminalis), siala (Markhamia hildebrandtii), flame-tree (Brachychiton acerifolius) and Cootamundra wattle (Acacia baileyana) bloom throughout the year. Camellias, jasmines and sweet-box (Sarcococca confusa) provide fragrance year-round!

The fit and finish of a Tanglewood conservatory has more in common with sculpture than carpentry. GLASS DOMED CONSERVATORY This custom hardwood conservatory with its towering curved glass dome and lead-coated copper cupola was originally intended to be a mere greenhouse. Situated at the end of the house adjacent to the garage, it turned out to be so spectacular that the owners decided to use it as a cloistered Great Room instead! It fronts on a small well-kept lawn and is surrounded by colorful garden flowers. The main drive up to the home runs alongside the conservatory's entry which is covered by a glass-roofed canopy supported on brick piers. Identical doors on the opposite side open ..................The curving forms of the conservatory harmonize well with those of the house. Constructed of beautiful mahogany stained to a deep rich tone that allows the full character of the wood to gleam through, the conservatory was then finished with a special resin-based coating that is unlikely to need further care. .........
Inside the room, the beautifully-finished mahogany interior is on full display and frames the panoramic skyscape through the glass dome above. The owners keep the room filled with exotic varieties of orchids year round, with a bubbling fountain providing much of the humidity...

W. R. Hearst’s private quarters occupied the entire third floor of the mansion. Here he displayed many sacred objects, including paintings, statues, textiles, and metalwork. Mr. Hearst was not a formal churchgoer, but he treasured these precious historic late-medieval pieces. He and his companion Marion Davies occupied the suite’s two bedrooms and private sitting room. Its soaring Gothic Study evokes a church, with its high windows and painted arches. But three thousand books and an imposing conference table show that this was actually Mr. Hearst’s personal library and executive board room.

The bath water is so warm you can see the steam rising from the water, the views are breathtaking. On the left side of the bath is a huge roaring fireplace with a towel warmer and hook to keep your robe nice and warm. to the right of the bath is a living stone wall of tillandsia & mix plants with protruding rock shelves that hold cricket houses. cricket house also hang from the ceiling at different lengths. and the garden ground has a zen garden of dirt to rake and zen pebbles to stack.
